General Horta N'Tam Sworn In as 'President of the Transition' in Guinea-Bissau: Reports
The senior officer has been appointed for a one-year term, the military announced, stating that they have taken control of the country.
He took the oath of office during a ceremony at the armed forces headquarters.
Earlier, Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embaló declared that he had been detained and was the victim of an attempted coup d’état.
Opposition figures have described the move as a maneuver to disrupt the vote-counting process following the presidential election held on November 23.
