African Countries Always Grateful to Russia for Support in Anti-Colonial Struggle and Independence: AU Chairperson
Russia—the USSR at the time—was the main source of broad support for African countries during European colonial rule and their fight for independence, President of Angola João Lourenço noted at a press conference following the AU-EU summit in Luanda.
"The African countries that received this support will be eternally grateful to Russia because the most valuable things for us are freedom, independence, and sovereignty," he emphasized.
