55,000 Runners Surge Through Meskel Square in Addis Ababa
This year, the Great Ethiopian Run was awarded World Athletics Heritage status, solidifying its position as one of the most culturally important running events globally.
Yismaw Dillu powered to victory in the men’s race, while Melknat Wudu dominated the women’s field.
The race represents much more than a sporting event — it serves as a platform to celebrate and promote Ethiopian culture, foster unity, and strengthen the sense of community, organizers emphasize.
Over more than 25 years, the event has supported youth programs and social initiatives while significantly boosting tourism and business activity in Addis Ababa.
