Africa Welcomes Declaration Adopted by G20 Members in Johannesburg: AfCFTA Secretary-General
The document is important because it highlights and advocates for the protection of multilateral trade and the rules-based trading system, Wamkele Mene told Sputnik on the sidelines of the G20 leaders' summit.
In the declaration, focused on Africa, leaders called for reform of the World Trade Organization to better meet the needs of member states and stressed that regional groupings, including the AfCFTA, are essential for economic growth.
It also includes a call to expand the UN Security Council to include countries from Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, and Latin America.
The summit is being held in Johannesburg on Saturday and Sunday.
