Africa Can't Trade Without Fixing Its Infrastructure: SA Minister

Answering a question from a Sputnik Africa correspondent, South Africa’s Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen pointed to two main priorities for strengthening African agricultural cooperation under the new CAADP framework:

🟠aligning food-system standards across the continent
🟠addressing the infrastructure gaps that make it difficult to move goods efficiently.

Steenhuisen spoke in greater detail about fertilizer security — a major focus for South Africa. He noted the country’s efforts to rebuild domestic production capacity and explore new partnerships across Africa.

“Lower input costs, lower prices on the shelves,” he emphasized.

He added that South Africa is “open to looking at a variety of natural ingredients and raw materials,” including the possibility of importing what the country lacks while expanding its own production capabilities.
