Sandton is one of the city’s safest neighborhoods, home to major hotels and convention centers, according to a Sputnik correspondent.
It houses the Sandton Convention Center, where the Global Fund Summit is currently being held — only accredited individuals may enter.
Snipers are positioned on rooftops across the area, with thousands of police officers securing the streets.
Some leaders have already arrived in Johannesburg. The G20 summit, opening on November 22, will be a historic meeting — the first ever held on African soil.
