Giant 300-Kilogram Emerald Discovered in Presidential Palace in Madagascar, Authorities Say

The rare gemstone was found in the Ambohitsorohitra Palace, a highly symbolic location that housed the presidency in Antananarivo until 1983, according to the ministry of mines.

The emerald had reportedly remained buried on the premises at least since 2009, and no previous efforts had been made to assess or utilize it.

President Michael Randrianirina visited the site to examine the discovery and announced that the emerald will be put up for sale after its technical analysis and financial evaluation.
