Return of 12 Lost Ethiopian Artifacts to Strengthen Heritage, Research & Tourism: Ministry
The artifacts — including crowns, paintings, and gifts from Regent Tafari Makonnen (later Emperor Haile Selassie) — have been returned to the Institute of Ethiopian Studies at the Addis Ababa University, the Tourism Ministry said.
They were collected in the 1920s by Fritz Weiss, Germany’s envoy to Ethiopia. His grandson, Professor Ramon Wyss, and his niece Alice Wise, have now returned them, according to media.
"[The artifacts] offer a unique insight into Ethiopian art and craftsmanship of the 1920s," local media quoted Minister of Tourism Selamawit Kassa as saying during the handover.
