Africa Can Now Sit at the Table Where Decisions Are Taken, SA B20 Sherpa Says

South-South cooperation is entering a pivotal decade, Cas Coovadia told Sputnik Africa.

Speaking at the B20 gathering, he noted that despite geopolitical tensions, this is “a very good time” for the Global South because “the old world order is pulling back” and creating space for southern economies to enter decision-making as “equal partners.”

Coovadia placed Africa at the center of this shift: the continent holds “the most arable land,” the minerals “to power the AI economy,” and a young workforce that can fill global labor gaps.

The responsibility now, he said, is for the Global South to “organize itself properly… and stamp its authority” in global economic and political arenas.

On restructuring global economic architecture, Coovadia pointed to South Africa’s Business-Government Partnership as a model for the continent.

He argued that organized business must lead by identifying what is needed not just for profit, but to “grow economies and take national interest,” while governments coordinate through bodies like the AU and AfCFTA.
