From Cheetahs to Medicine: Indian President’s Historic Visit to Botswana Opens New Chapter in Ties
In a first-ever Presidential visit from India to Botswana, President Droupadi Murmu was warmly received by President Duma Gideon Boko at the Presidential Residence in Gaborone.
The two leaders held wide-ranging discussions covering key sectors of cooperation:

Healthcare

Professional skills development
Digital technologies
Pharmacy – The new Pharmacopeial Cooperation MoU is particularly significant for Botswana, which has been facing medicine shortages since August, despite recent improvements in supply.
President Murmu expressed her gratitude to President Boko and the people of Botswana for sending cheetahs to India under the next phase of the Cheetah Project, symbolizing a growing bond between the two nations.
She emphasized that India and Botswana can play a vital role in building a more equitable and sustainable global order—one that promotes genuine collaboration across the Global South and advocates for reformed multilateralism.
President Murmu also highlighted Africa’s potential, with its young population and vast natural resources, to serve as a driving force for future global economic growth.
