Nigeria: Supertech Methanol & Ammonium Bicarbonate Plant in Ondo State Hailed as Key to Gas-Driven Industrialization
The government is committed to converting Nigeria's natural gas resources into national prosperity, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ekperikpe Ekpo said.
Ekpo praised Nigeria’s first Chinese-built methanol and ammonium bicarbonate plant, capable of producing 100,000 metric tons of methanol and 160,000 metric tons of ammonium bicarbonate annually, as a major boost to the country’s downstream gas sector and local fertilizer production.
The minister highlighted the plant’s successful relocation from China and 100% mechanical completion by March 2025, and announced government support to scale production from 100,000 to 500,000 metric tons by 2026.
According to Ekpo, the project will:
🟠deepen domestic gas utilization,
🟠stimulate value addition,
🟠encourage technology transfer,
🟠attract more industries to the Ondo–Linyi Industrial Hub.
