Zambia Becomes Second African Country to Register Long-Acting Injection for HIV Prevention

Newly registered Lenacapavir is given once every six months and offers protection against HIV infection for that entire period, Minister of Health Elijah Muchima said at the announcement in Lusaka.

Lenacapavir availability, he added, is a solution for:

🟠pregnant and breastfeeding women;

🟠those who cannot adhere to daily or bi-monthly HIV prevention schedules;

🟠men who seek confidential access to preventive measures.

The treatment will be provided to all eligible citizens free of charge, the minister said.

Under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, Zambia remains a global leader in the fight against HIV, he emphasized.
