Nigeria to Intensify Fight Against Islamist Militias Amid Trump’s Warning, Army Chief Vows
The Nigerian army must maintain consistent pressure on the remnants of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province* groups until total victory is secured, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu said during his visit to Borno State.
"We will pursue this fight with renewed energy, clear focus, and absolute dedication to end this menace once and for all," he stated.
Last week, Trump labeled Nigeria a "country of particular concern" for alleged religious freedom violations and said he instructed the Defense Department to prepare for possible rapid military action if Nigeria fails to stop the killing of Christians.
Nigerian authorities have described Trump's claims as not reflecting "the reality on the ground."
