Zimbabwe Sees Significant Growth in Cereal & Livestock Production: Agriculture Minister
This strong cereal production was driven by remarkable growth in small grains (now 28% of total output, up from 8% in 2018), Anxious Masuka noted. He suggested improved financing could further enhance this success.
The minister highlighted several major achievements, including
Historic record production levels for both (637,000 tonnes, projected to reach 1.4 million by 2030) and tobacco. Performance could improve with better resourcing and diversified financing.
🫐 Blueberry production has significantly risen to 12,000 tonnes, positioning Zimbabwe to become the world's second-largest producer.
Continued growth in the livestock sector, citing increased milk production and effective control over livestock mortality.
Despite these gains, he noted a misalignment in consumption patterns, observing that regions growing small grains still face maize shortages.
