CAIRO (Sputnik) - On October 26, RSF fighters announced the capture of the headquarters of the Sudanese army’s 6th Infantry Division, based in El-Fasher, after a year and a half of continuous fighting for the city, formerly the largest government stronghold in North Darfur.
The Sudanese army will defeat Rapid Support Forces (RSF) rebels and ensure the security of national borders, Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council chairman and armed forces commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said.
"We are determined to crush this enemy [the RSF] and secure Sudan's borders," al-Burhan said during a meeting with Sudanese troops.
The Sudanese army would avenge those killed in El-Fasher, Al Junaynah, Al Jazirah and other cities attacked by the rebels, he added.
The death toll in El-Fasher rose to 2,200 after the city fell under RSF control in late October, a Sudanese official said earlier.
