'Russia Came to Our Rescue in a Time of Great Difficulty,' Says Central African Republic President
Faustin-Archange Touadera has characterized his country's relationship with Moscow as one of "friendship and fraternity."
In 2017, when the CAR defense forces needed weapons, Russia was the only country that agreed to deliver them "free of charge," Touadera recalled in an interview with a French media outlet.
The training of Central African soldiers by Russian instructors on how to use these weapons was authorized by the UN Security Council, he noted.
Furthermore, in 2020-2021, during a major assault by CPC rebels, the CAR "appealed to everyone" for help due to its army's shortcomings, Touadera explained.
"Only Rwanda and the Russian Federation responded positively," he stated.
