Samia Suluhu Hassan Officially Sworn In for Second Term as Tanzania's President
The 65-year-old leader, who won with 98% of the vote according to the electoral commission, will be supported by Emmanuel Nchimbi as her vice-president.
This marks her first term as an elected president, having first assumed the office in 2021 following the death of her predecessor, John Magufuli.
Hassan holds a unique place in Tanzanian history. Her political journey includes:
🟠Being the first woman to serve as president of Tanzania.
🟠Being the first president born in Zanzibar.
🟠Beginning her political career as a member of the Zanzibar House of Representatives, where she was appointed a minister.
🟠Being elected to the Tanzanian National Assembly in 2010 and serving as minister of state for union affairs.
🟠Becoming vice chair of the Constitutional Assembly in 2014.
🟠Being selected as the running mate for the late President Magufuli in 2015, becoming the first woman to hold the vice president position.
