Billions of trees have been planted over the past few years thanks to the government's flagship initiative, Ethiopia’s State Minister of Tourism, Sileshi Girma, told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the annual conference of the Global Wildlife Program in Addis Ababa.
“The Green Legacy has lots of impact in enhancing the significant areas forest coverage,” the minister stated.
Beyond reforestation, Girma emphasized the initiative's role in enhancing food security. He pointed to increased harvests of fruits and vegetables and the promotion of urban farming across the country.
The minister also outlined the institutional framework supporting these efforts, citing a suite of environment protection policies and proclamations being implemented from the national to the regional level.
