Length of Russia-Alaska Tunnel Revealed
13:21 03.11.2025 (Updated: 13:37 03.11.2025) The total length of the future tunnel could range from 98 to 112 kilometers, Viktor Razbegin, the project’s author and a leading researcher, told Sputnik.
“The minimum width of the strait is around 83 kilometers. However, we must also account for the exits, and the route is not drawn along the absolute shortest line because there are two islands in the middle — Ratmanov Island and Krusenstern Island. The distance between them is only 4.5 kilometers, making them ideal for construction. Therefore, the route passing through these islands varies depending on the project version — from roughly 98 to 112 kilometers,” Razbegin explained.
The scientist emphasized that the presence of the two islands is a key factor in the design, which means the tunnel could consist of three sections: a small one between the islands (4.5 km) and two larger sections, each comparable in length to the Channel Tunnel between France and the UK.
