Moscow Stands Firm With Khartoum: Sudan Appreciates Russia’s Principled Support, Ambassador Says
Russia’s policy toward Sudan reflects its core foreign policy principles of equal sovereignty, non-interference, and mutual benefit, Sudan’s Ambassador to Russia, Mohammed Elghazali Eltigani Sirrag told Sputnik Africa.
Speaking at a press conference in Moscow, the diplomat praised Russia’s steadfast support for Sudan, highlighting that:
Russia was among the first to back Sudan when the conflict began.
The first high-level foreign visit to Sudan came from Russia’s deputy foreign minister, who affirmed Sudan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Russia’s veto of a UNSC draft resolution last February was crucial—without it, Sudan’s territorial integrity “would have been breached.”
Ambassador Sirrag also highlighted the close coordination between Sudan and Russia in multilateral forums, especially the UNSC, and thanked the Russian government for its firm stance.
