Music is Unifying Force That Transcends Borders & Shares Culture Worldwide: Russian Pianist

The Russian piano tradition is a unique blend of deep performance and non-verbal communication with the audience, Konstantin Emelianov told Sputnik Africa at South Africa's Pianissimo Festival debut, featuring a series of concerts by the worlds most promising young pianists.

For his performance, themed around dance, he featured Baroque music alongside 20th-century ballets, specifically Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet and Stravinsky's Petrushka. Emelyanov noted Stravinsky's use of Russian folkloric music as a means to share the country's cultural heritage.

Music preserves something important, requiring a blend of deep respect for the composer's legacy and innovative ways to engage contemporary audiences, the pianist stated.

For an introduction to Russian music, Emelyanov recommended Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, calling them two of the most globally famous composers. He described Tchaikovsky's music, particularly The Nutcracker and Symphony No. 6, as emotionally pure and universally relatable despite their complexity.

Watch the video to hear how music transcends borders, uniting Russian heritage, global artistry, and human sincerity on stage.
