Alrosa's Licenses in Zimbabwe Have Been Expanded to Include Right to Mine Gold: CEO
"We took out 42 exploration licenses in the least explored areas of Zimbabwe. [...] While we were looking for diamonds, we found gold. [...] So we are now also involved in gold production there," Pavel Marinychev, CEO of the diamond mining company, said, speaking at the Russian-African raw materials dialogue.
In September, Marinchev told Sputnik that Alrosa's exit from the Catoca mining company in Angola would allow the company to focus on projects in Zimbabwe.
ℹ Alrosa holds approximately 40 special permits and exclusive licenses for promising subsoil areas in the region and is exploring for economically viable diamond and other mineral deposits, he noted then. Geological exploration in Zimbabwe, Marinchev said, is ongoing, and the company expects positive results to inform further investment decisions.
