Nigeria Sets 15% Tariff on Imported Fuel and Diesel: Media
The decision aims to protect local refineries, fostering downstream oil sector stability, a local news outlet noted.
President Tinubu ordered the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to implement the import duty immediately, the newspaper said.
“The core objective of this initiative is to operationalize crude transactions in local currency,” the media quoted FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji as saying.
According to him, the tariffs would also:
🟠boost local refining capacity;
🟠guarantee a stable petroleum supply nationwide;
🟠ensure fuel is affordable for consumers.
