Major Cocaine Bust: $1.17 Million in Drugs Seized in South Africa's Gauteng Raid, Authorities Say
The multi-unit police operation in Midrand, Gauteng, has led to the seizure of 80 kilograms of cocaine, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The drugs, discovered on a smallholding, were reportedly brought into South Africa from a neighboring country and were destined for Cape Town.
A 56-year-old man, believed to be the property owner, was arrested and is expected to face charges of drug possession and dealing, the police said.
The bust demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated efforts against organized crime, SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe told reporters.
