Putin Thanks Soldiers for Bullet-Pierced Icons Gifted on His Birthday
During a visit to Moscow’s Central Military Clinical Hospital, President Vladimir Putin personally thanked Russian servicemen recovering from combat for a deeply symbolic birthday gift: icons pierced by bullets.
“You, while sacrificing yourselves in battle—risking your lives and health—remembered my birthday and sent not just a gift, but holy relics that literally saved your lives. These bullet marks show how these icons shielded you,” Putin told the troops.
He said the gift moved him deeply and immediately made him want to meet the soldiers in person.
“First and foremost, I want to thank you for your service to the Motherland.”
