Djibouti Parliament Votes to Remove Age Limit for Presidential Candidates
All 65 members present at the National Assembly voted unanimously in favor of removing the age limit for presidential candidates from the constitution, according to parliamentary speaker Dileita Mohamed Dileita.
Until now, the country's constitution prohibited any individual over the age of 75 from running for president.
The next presidential election is scheduled for April 2026.
Current President Ismael Omar Guelleh, who will be 78 years old by then, has been in power since 1999 and is currently serving his fifth consecutive term.
