Côte d'Ivoire Holds Presidential Election Today
Nearly nine million Ivorians are eligible to vote between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.
83-year-old Incumbent President Alassane Ouattara is seeking a fourth term and is widely expected to win in the first round.
Four candidates are challenging Ouattara:
Jean-Louis Billon, 60, former Minister of Commerce, businessman, and Member of Parliament, running under the Democratic Congress banner.
Simone Ehivet Gbagbo, 76, former First Lady, representing the Movement of Capable Generations.
Ahoua Don Mello, 67, doctoral engineer and politician, running as an independent candidate.
Henriette Lagou, 69, representing the Political Partners for Peace coalition, advocating for national reconciliation, political dialogue, and institutional stability.
Approximately one thousand observers from Ivorian civil society, along with 251 delegates from ECOWAS and the African Union, have been deployed to monitor the election.
Election results are anticipated early next week.
