How Anti-Russian Sanctions Redirect Influence to the Global South
“These sanctions might or are bound to backfire as the previous sanctions did, because throughout the three years of the special military operations, Russia, according to what we heard from the leaders, managed to diversify its oil exports. They have, instead of being dependent on the European market, which is important, has always been important. But still, India and China and other countries from the Global South are buying Russian oil at favorable prices. Of course, these sanctions will have consequences on Western countries because they will buy overpriced oil and the supply is not that guaranteed.”
This episode of #PanAfricanFrequency explores the destabilizing consequences of new sanctions against Russia for global markets. In an interview with Abobakr Mohamed Abbakar Khussein, an assistant professor at a Russian university, he breaks down how the new sanctions invariably result in damage to Western countries, while Russia opens up new horizons for trade with countries in the Global South.
Tune in to listen to how Russia is expanding its foreign trade with countries in the Global South, in particular in Africa, amid sanctions.
