Gas Exporting Countries Forum Appoints Nigerian Representative as Secretary General
The decision was made on Thursday in Doha following the meeting of energy ministers from member countries, according to an official statement.
“Participants congratulated Philip Mshelbila on his appointment as GECF Secretary General and expressed support for his successful work,” the document says.
Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, was also elected as chairman of the GECF ministerial meeting for the next year.
President Bola Tinubu congratulated both Mshelbila and Ekpo on the occasion, noting that the received positions reflect the global community's confidence in Nigeria's technical expertise in the gas sector and leadership in the field.
The 2026 GECF Heads of State and Government Summit and the group's 28th Ministerial Meeting will be held in Moscow.
