“So, the adoption of the resolution on the International Day Against Colonialism in all its forms and manifestations is a critical reflection on the progress achieved and the objective material realities currently confronting the world majority and their various struggles for self-determination and national sovereignty. The resolution was co-created by 23 countries, including Algiers, Angola, Botswana, Togo. My own country, the Republic of South Africa, who together with others constituted the group of friends. It's also important to recognize why the date, the 14th of December, was chosen, because that was the date in 1960 when the United Nations adopted the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples.”
