Uganda Sets January 15 for General Election as Museveni Seeks Another Term

The 80-year-old leader, in power since 1986, faces opposition from Bobi Wine, a 43-year-old musician-turned-politician who has accused Museveni of past electoral irregularities—claims the ruling party rejects.

Six other candidates are also in the race as Ugandans prepare to elect both the president and members of parliament.

Museveni’s supporters credit him with stability and economic growth, while critics cite repression, corruption, and human rights concerns.

The government anticipates next year’s crude oil exports will boost growth.
