Morocco Increases Health & Education Allocation in 2026 Budget up 16% From Last Year
The allocation of 140 billion dirhams ($15 billion) in funding to these sectors represents approximately 10% of Morocco's GDP. It was announced following a ministerial council chaired by King Mohammed VI.
The royal palace cited strong economic growth projections of 4.8% for this year as providing fiscal space for the increased spending.
The move comes amid recent youth protests demanding improved public services.
Separately, the council adopted electoral reforms aimed at promoting youth and women's participation, including simplified candidacy rules for candidates under 35 and financial support covering 75% of campaign costs.
