Russia Emphasizes Global Fight Against Terrorism, Pledges Support for Africa

Moscow is committed to helping African countries combat terrorism, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, told Sputnik Africa.

The UN Office of Counter-Terrorism, formerly headed by Russian Under-Secretary-General Vladimir Voronkov, has provided substantial support to African nations in areas such as border control and counterterrorism strategies, often through Russian mediation and facilitation.

As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Russia has been actively involved through its national agencies and has provided voluntary contributions to relevant programs, Nebenzia added.

"Terrorism is a global problem now. It does not just concern Africa. It's an evolving thing, which is one of the main threats to international peace and security. And Africa should be protected," the diplomat said.

As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Russia is dedicated to "doing whatever it can to help its brothers in Africa" combat this challenge.
