High Prices, Not Faults, Forced Crude Cut, Nigeria's Dangote Refinery Says
The recent reductions in crude oil intake are a strategic response to high global prices, not a sign of operational failure, Dangote Group Vice President Edwin Devakumar told reporters, noting that the company adjusts purchases based on price fluctuations and inventory levels.
The 650,000-barrel-per-day facility acknowledged undergoing maintenance this year but emphasized it is designed for major turnaround maintenance only every five years.
Devakumar also cited 22 documented sabotage attempts, including efforts to start fires and tamper with equipment, which he said were thwarted by automated safety systems.
