Sierra Leone Seeks Strong Energy Cooperation With Russia, Head of Petroleum Directorate Says

Unlocking a nation’s potential begins with partnership — and for Sierra Leone, that partnership could come from Russia, Foday Mansaray, Director General of the Petroleum Directorate of Sierra Leone, said in an interview with Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of Russian Energy Week.

“Sierra Leone is classed as a frontier nation, and we're on the path to unlocking our oil and gas potential... we believe to hold about 30 billion barrels of oil in our basin and 25 trillion cubic feet of gas. We need to get that to the surface. We need to make sure that we provide energy for our people and [ensure] economic prosperity.”

He added that the country is “open for business,” and looks to Russian companies for technology, skills, and investment — aiming to ensure that “every single Sierra Leonean benefits from the petroleum sector.”
