Madagascar coup leader Michael Randrianirina declares himself interim president
Colonel Michael Randrianirina, who instigated the military coup that overthrew President Andry Rajoelina, announced that he would take charge of the state at the request of the Supreme Constitutional Court, following Rajoelina's escape.
On Tuesday, the office of the ousted president condemned what it called the "illegal action" by the military special forces CAPSAT, aimed at suspending the country's constitution.
