'Assassination of Thomas Sankara Put End to Revolution,' Says His Former Comrade-in-Arms

"The captain awakened consciences," Abdrahamane Zetyenga told Sputnik Africa on the 38th anniversary of Sankara's death.

The Burkinabe revolutionary "opened our eyes and this allowed us to know that it was imperative to fight for our sovereignty, for the country to be completely independent, committed to peace and justice," Zetyenga declared.

Resumed by Ibrahim Traoré, the People's Revolution is currently taking place, and "it is necessary that we commit together, hand in hand," he continued.

Burkina Faso must become "a country of peace, a haven, a country freed from the yoke of colonization," which "will set an example for all other countries committed to peace and justice," Zetyenga concluded.
