This episode opens with Egypt's pivotal role in global diplomacy by hosting the Gaza peace summit, then shifts to expose the political instability and authoritarian accusations plaguing France. Finally, it explores Zambia's decisive turn toward self-reliance, fostering homegrown industries in an era of declining Western aid.
The recent International Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, was a high-stakes diplomatic moment. With leaders from over 20 nations gathered, Egypt positioned itself not as a passive observer but as the essential mediator for Middle Eastern stability. The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, gave an exclusive comment to Sputnik, assessing the importance of the summit.
This is a very important moment for the Palestinian issue because it mainly addressed initial issues, namely the ceasefire, the release of prisoners, food supply issues, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. And this is very good. But we want to ensure that this summit is solidified by two important things: The first thing that must be done is to work on the reconstruction of Gaza. This is an important task that requires international and Arab efforts. And the second thing is peace. Building peace, for which there will be a special conference held for this purpose, there will be a special international conference taking place this year,” the president explained.
In the second segment of the episode, French political analyst Paul Antoine spoke to Sputnik Africa to discuss the unfolding political scene in France. By holding a Western power to account with the same critical lens often reserved for the Global South.
This political crisis is happening because France has been ungovernable and weak for years [...] Why? Because there is a collapse of authority, a collapse of legitimate force. And the French people understand that there are a lot of lies [...] The French are realizing all this. They see that it's a lie. They see that nothing is being managed, that no one is managing anything, that Macron is managing nothing, and they see that Macron's word abroad is worthless,” Antoine pointed out.
Furthermore, in the episode, we highlight Zambia’s bold statement that reducing US aid will lead to positive results. Dr. Lubinda Haabazoka, the director of the Graduate School of Business at the University of Zambia, discusses the vital incentives for independent economic development on the African continent.
The gradual reduction in the tide of aid and the influence of foreign consultants will now prevent a much more opportunities for locals to depend on their expertise,” signaling a shift toward homegrown decision-making. [...] In a country that heavily funds your health sector, you do not see the need to develop companies that manufacture drugs in your country,” Dr. Haabazoka noted.
