Major World Events by Evening of October 14

▪Russia remains ready for a peaceful resolution in Ukraine but, given the absence of viable alternatives, will continue the special military operation, the Kremlin said;

▪Madagascar’s military announced it had taken power following the president’s impeachment, after which the High Constitutional Court invited Army Colonel Michael Randrianirina to serve as interim president;

▪Chad inaugurated a hybrid photovoltaic power plant aimed at strengthening the country’s renewable energy capacity;

▪The DR Congo and M23 rebels signed the Doha Agreement to establish a ceasefire monitoring mechanism, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry reported;

▪Ethiopia’s Council of Ministers approved a resolution establishing the Ethiopian Nuclear Energy Commission;

▪Nigeria expressed interest in transitioning international payments to national currencies and has begun initial steps toward this goal, the Central Bank governor said in response to a Sputnik question at the IMF and World Bank meetings;

▪A US military strike on a ship off Venezuela’s coast killed six crew members;

▪Cape Town and Marrakech were ranked among the world’s 20 happiest cities;

▪Trump said that Hamas agreed to lay down arms.
