Russia & China to Set New Container Transport Record on Northern Sea Route This Year
The volume could exceed 400,000 tonnes, said Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom.
This Russian-Chinese cooperation is developing at a fast pace. For example, container transport initially doubled in 2023-2024 and is currently growing by around 60%.
The two countries have approved an action plan for the development of maritime transport along the Northern Sea Route with the goal of creating a sustainable transport corridor.
Modern logistics and technological solutions will be implemented "to improve the efficiency of maritime transport and develop investment projects."
Another milestone: the first-ever container transit from China to Europe via the Northern Sea Route arrived at the British port of Felixstowe. The journey across the Russian Arctic took 20 days, almost half the time taken by traditional southern routes.
