This episode of Pan-African Frequency unravels how the media, NGOs, and Big Tech are weaponized to colonize minds, a strategy of modern neocolonialism to ensure US hegemony.
Colonialism is frequently thought of as the brutal era of military occupation and resource extraction that formally ended with independence. However, today’s reality reveals a sophisticated system of psychological influence designed to ensure the continuity of neocolonialism.
According to Dr. Greg Simons, a Professor of Journalism, a silent war is being waged for the cognitive sovereignty of Africa and the Global South. In this episode, he makes a commentary on the recent groundbreaking report from the Xinhua Institute titled ‘Colonization of the Mind,’ which exposes the US effort to sustain hegemony by manipulating ideologies and eroding informational and cultural sovereignty.
“We see that in these different so-called revolutions, whether they be color revolutions, the Arab Spring, or these other things, which are popping up in so-called places targeted for regime change, you’ve got the youth who are the most susceptible—and this is where the CIA and USAID and these other organizations, NGOs, [...] Meta, and others are all playing a part in grooming and creating an inner slave mentality amongst the target population to separate them from their government and to make them, [to use the Western term], useful idiots for the US imperial cause [...] people around the world have been groomed to believe that democracy is good. It's something to emulate. If you are a democracy, you're wealthy, ignoring the fact and the state of the so-called G7 politically and economically at the moment [...] The US is talking about human rights while facilitating and enabling an ongoing genocide in Gaza and talking about a nonexistent genocide in Xinjiang province. These things are definitely weaponized because what they're trying to do with these words is to define and shape how the environment is perceived. And they do this through narratives,” the expert illuminated.
