Mozambique Aims to Quadruple Rice Production to Address Malnutrition Crisis
Funded by the African Development Bank Group, the Rice Value Chain and Climate Resilience Project is designed to boost Mozambique’s agricultural self-sufficiency by strengthening food security.
Other objectives of the project, according to AfDB, include:
🟠increasing rice yields from 1 to 4 tonnes per hectare;
🟠reducing post-harvest losses from 26% to 12%;
🟠raising annual household incomes from $590 to $1000;
🟠lowering country's import dependency;
🟠creating domestic value addition;
🟠equipping 30,000 smallholder farmers;
🟠building a climate-smart rice sector with technologies needed.
⌛The initiative duration spans from December 2025 to December 2030.
