Somali Forces Kill Senior Al-Shabaab* Commander in Hiiraan Operation
Somali government forces, supported by Macawiisley local defense units, killed senior al-Shabaab commander Ali Ahmed Guure, also known as Ali Qoyane, during a planned operation in the Mabah area of the Hiiraan region on Sunday night.
According to Somali National Television (SNTV), Qoyane was shot dead while seated in a local tea shop, and security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle and a pistol from the scene.
Government reports identify Qoyane as a key figure in al-Shabaab’s intelligence operations in Beledweyne, linked to multiple attacks and bombings targeting officials and civilians.
“Last night’s operation demonstrates the courage and ongoing efforts of Macawiisley local defense forces, supported by the federal government, to ensure public security and prevent acts of terrorism,” the federal government stated.
◻ Officials noted that the operation reflects a shift in tactics, using ground operations instead of airstrikes commonly employed in past missions against senior militant figures.
