Presidential Elections in Cameroon Will Proceed Under Good Security Conditions, Territorial Administration Minister Says
"The defense and security forces have received the necessary instructions to ensure the smooth conduct of the vote and the protection of voters," Paul Atanga Nji said at a press conference.
The elections are planned to take place across the entire country, despite ongoing challenges from Boko Haram attacks in the Far North region and tensions in the Anglophone regions, he said.
"National borders shall be closed 48 hours to polling day. They will be reopened the following day after voting," Atanga Nji pointed out.
Cameroon has set October 12 as the date for its presidential election, with over 8 million voters expected to participate, according to the country's electoral body.
