Somali Army Recaptures Strategic Town of Awdhegle in Major Boost Against Al-Shabaab*
The Somali National Army (SNA) has completed a critical phase of its southern offensive, securing key infrastructure and tightening control over routes leading to Mogadishu, local media reported.
Officials confirmed that the operation successfully reclaimed three vital bridges along the Shabelle River, long used by Al-Shabaab to disrupt military logistics and civilian movement.
Security experts said control of these crossings enhances the government’s ability to protect the capital and sustain operations deeper into militant-held areas.
Recent airstrikes in Jilib, Mubarak, Ugunji, and Kunyo Barro have further weakened Al-Shabaab’s command structure, eliminating senior figures such as Mohamed Osman Mohamed Tuutah, the group’s deputy Amniyat commander.
