Zimbabwe is on Track for Record 600,000-Tonne Wheat Harvest This Season

The Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA) anticipates surpassing its 300,000-tonne target, citing improved productivity and strong public-private partnerships.

The bumper harvest is expected to exceed Zimbabwe's annual consumption of 360,000 tonnes, ensuring uninterrupted supplies for local millers and eliminating the need for costly imports.

Harvesting is progressing well, with early yields averaging 6.6 tonnes per hectare, ARDA CEO Tino Mhiko said. He attributed this success to technology-driven and climate-smart farming methods, emphasizing the focus on productivity, soil health, and water conservation.

The 2025 wheat season also benefited from an improved power supply, with the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company allocating 150 MW for irrigation.

The Grain Marketing Board's decision to maintain the producer price at $450 per tonne is considered competitive and sustainable by farmers, local media reported. The government's timely provision of essential resources also contributed to the positive outlook, according to the media.
