Zimbabwe Commodity Exchange Relaunch Will Protect Farmers and Consumers: Official
The Mercantile Exchange of Zimbabwe comes in to benefit both buyers and sellers, Collen Tapfumaneyi, Zimbabwe Mercantile Exchange (ZMX) CEO, told Sputnik Africa.
The Warehouse Receipt System of ZMX addresses several issues:
🟠Reduces post-harvest losses at around 30% by promoting better storage;
🟠Establishes grading standards for commodities;
🟠Improves farmers' market access by facilitating trade.
Such a system also ensures farmers are confident they will be paid fairly, so productivity rises, which in turn strengthens food security, he added.
ℹThe Commodity Exchange of Zimbabwe has relaunched wheat trading following the liberalization of the wheat and barley markets in 2023, which opened doors for private sector participation.
