Vibrant Oromo Festival of Gratitude Lights Addis Ababa With Joy

Thousands gathered at the sacred lake Hora Finfinne and at the center of the Ethiopian capital to celebrate Irreecha—the Oromo people's festival of gratitude to Waaqa, the supreme creator God in Oromo belief, for peace, rain, and renewal, a Sputnik Africa correspondent reported.

The ceremony opened with traditional blessings led by the respected Abbaa Gadaas, leaders of the Gadaa system, the Oromo's centuries-old democratic tradition that governs leadership, justice, and community life.

Celebrations will continue on Sunday at Hora Arsedi, another sacred lake in the nearby town of Bishoftu—honoring unity, heritage, and hope.
