CAR's Touadéra Reportedly Formalizes His Candidacy for December Presidential Election
"We have fulfilled a constitutional requirement within the framework of democracy in our country," Faustin-Archange Touadéra told reporters after submitting his candidacy.
▫Under the new constitution adopted in August 2023, Touadéra, first elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2020, is permitted to run for another term. The elections are scheduled for December 28.
▫Central African voters will also be called to vote in legislative, regional, and municipal elections, which have been postponed several times over the past year, according to local media.
▫The submission of candidacies is open from October 2 to October 11, according to the National Elections Authority.
