Ghana Will Not Become ‘Dumping Ground’ For Deportees, President Says

The sovereignty and security of Ghana will remain principal, John Mahama stressed at the commissioning of ambassadors and high commissioners.

The agreement with the US on accepting deported Africans is “limited, carefully vetted, and aligned with our ECOWAS protocols,” he noted.

In addition, the president urged Ghana’s foreign missions to take a more assertive stance, moving away from a passive attitude.

“They must be active participants seeking opportunities, negotiating fair deals, and ensuring that Ghana’s interests are never compromised,” Mahama said.

The US "third-country deportation" policy is pressuring African nations to accept deported foreigners, including criminals, by threatening visa restrictions on countries that refuse to comply.
